RVer Charged For Wrong Class License After Crash

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a motorhome crash on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Friday, in which a man crashed a large motorhome into a guardrail.

When crews arrived on scene they found a 43-foot Freightliner Columbia motorhome had crashed– and was leaking diesel fuel onto the roadway and under the span of the bridge.

According to the CHP, Notifications were made to the U.S. Coast Guard, Fish and Wildlife, National Response Center, and CalTrans. Trucks stocked with absorbent were dispatched from a local CalTrans yard and arrived on scene shortly thereafter.

The driver of the crash, identified as a 71-year-old Corte Madera man, was not properly licensed to be operating the RV, according to the CHP.

The RVer did possess a valid Class C license, however the vehicle he was driving required a Class B non-commercial license. He will be charged with driving with the wrong class license a violation of California Vehicle Code.

Editor’s note: I wonder if this RVer’s insurance company will honor his policy since he was not properly licensed. I can only imagine what the bill for this accident will be and if the insurance company doesn’t pay, this guy’s financial future is bleak.
