RV Putty Tape

Regular RV putty tape or butyl tape is a gray material commonly supplied in 3/4 inch wide by 30 feet long rolls with a crepe-paper backing. It’s inexpensive and sold in every RV store. It works well and has been a staple of the RV industry for many years.

A better RV putty tape is available. This tape is much stickier and often has a slick, plastic paper backing. It is available in white and black and is only a bit more expensive. It has a more “rubber-like” consistency and doesn’t “ooze” as bad as the gray putty tape and is available up to 1-1/2″ wide. You should be able to find it at your RV store and also at boating supply stores or in heating/air conditioning places where they use it in ductwork.

TIP: RV putty tape will stick to itself and the backing paper. Most annoying when trying to apply it. You can make it a lot easier to handle by putting it in the freezer for about 10 minutes before using it. Yes, it will still stick just fine after it warms up.
