Duct Tape

Duct tape is the ‘handyman’s secret weapon’ according to Red Green. And I agree. Who hasn’t fixed things, at least temporarily, with a few strips of duct tape? I’ve even used it on my RV’s A/C ducting!

But don’t buy a roll from the bargain barrel. When it comes time to use it you’ll want a good quality tape that won’t tear and will actually stick.

Electrical Tape

As the name implies electrical tape is primarily used for insulating electrical wires and other conductors. It only takes a couple of wraps to insulate thousands of volts. Of course, like duct tape, electrical tape is also used as a general purpose tape. Pay a little more and get a better quality tape… better vinyl and adhesives… if the repair is meant to be permanent.

Roof Repair Tape

Roof repair tape is a great way to repair roof damage especially when you’re doing the repair in bad weather. It sticks and is waterproof immediately. It can be applied over old and cracked caulking too.

Although intended for roof repairs this tape is good for temporary patches on sidewalls, holding tanks and waste plumbing.

Eternabond is a well-known brand but there are others.

Silicone Repair Tape

I have to admit I haven’t used this tape any emergency repairs but I have used it for minor repairs and it is very different than other tapes. It is a non-sticky… only sticks to itself… “form-fitting” wrap that can be used for almost anything:
