RV Quick Tips

Make sure an RV park or campground permits pets on the premises. Even if an RV park says it’s pet friendly, it may have size restrictions or limit the number of pets.

When you eat a sandwich, hamburger or hot dog, do you end up wearing most of it … ketchup, mustard, relish?

Before you dig in, slide the sandwich partly into a plastic sandwich bag and the juices will drop into the bag and not on your clothes.

RVers like to color coordinate things and some have painted their propane tanks colors matching their RV. Dark colors more readily absorb the sun’s rays and can cause the tank to overheat which may allow propane to vent through the pressure relief valve.

Use a document scanner to scan all your important documents. There are a few that have to be in the original, like a Certificate Of Deposit or a Birth Certificate, but most documents can be scanned, saved and shredded. I like to keep copies of bank statements and credit card bills for at least a year. I keep tax returns for up to four years. All these documents I just scan and discard the original. In almost all cases that is legally acceptable. I cut my storage of paper records by 90%. – Tom

I like to use a 4-way lug wrench for trailer tire changing because it offers a lot more leverage. But it almost always takes me four tries to find the socket that fits the lug nuts until I spray painted the correct socket. If you don’t have paint you can just wrap a length of tape around the shaft.

For permanent electrical connections consider using liquid electrical tape. It is a rubber insulation coating that has excellent acid, alkaline and abrasion protection and seals out moisture and salt permanently. The rubber based coating will not harden, unravel or become brittle in extreme weather conditions.
